🚨 Important Lawsuit in Idaho — and Why It Matters Nationally 🚨
Public school supporters in Idaho have filed a lawsuit to stop taxpayer money from being siphoned into private and religious schools. Their case argues what should be obvious: the Idaho Constitution requires a general, uniform, and thorough system of public, free schools — not subsidies for institutions that can pick and choose who they serve.
This law, pushed by billionaire-funded groups like the State Policy Network and its local arms (Mountain States Policy Center, Idaho Freedom Foundation), is part of a national agenda: privatize education, funnel public money to religious schools, and weaken the public school system we all depend on. These are the same networks behind Project 2025, which openly calls for dismantling the U.S. Department of Education and imposing “universal school choice” nationwide.
💡 Why this matters:
• Public funds belong in public schools. Every dollar diverted to private/religious schools drains resources from the classrooms where most American kids learn.
• Accountability disappears. Private schools receiving vouchers don’t have to follow the same transparency, equity, or admissions rules as public schools. Students with special needs? They can be denied admission outright.
• Theocracy by stealth. In states with voucher programs, up to 90% of funds go directly to religious schools. This isn’t “choice” — it’s taxpayer-funded indoctrination.
SEA has been sounding the alarm: these fights aren’t just local — they’re coordinated, well-funded, and happening in statehouses across the country. Idaho’s lawsuit is a crucial reminder that we must stand together to protect our public schools and keep church and state separate.
✊ We’re grateful to Idaho’s coalition for taking this stand. Their fight is our fight.
