🚨Another Ohio district caught violating released-time law.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation has formally asked Elmwood Schools to stop allowing LifeWise Academy to hold religious classes on school property during the school day.

Ohio law is clear:
Released Time Religious Instruction must occur off school district property.

According to reporting, Elmwood has been renting a room in a district-owned building on school grounds to LifeWise while students attend Bible classes during the school day.

That raises serious legal concerns.

For years, programs like LifeWise have insisted they operate “completely legally.” But situations like this show how often districts are pushed into gray areas or outright violations when trying to accommodate these programs.

At the same time, the article highlights something important:

Even districts that comply with the law — like Bowling Green — still face pressure to carve out time during the school day for religious instruction.

That’s the larger national issue.

Released time programs are expanding rapidly across the country, and many communities are now grappling with questions about:

• loss of instructional time
• student safety and liability
• equity and inclusion
• and the role of religion during the public school day

These conversations are happening in districts across Ohio and nationwide.

Public education should serve every student, regardless of religion.
