🚨OHIO
Ohio students need trained counselors, social workers, and licensed mental health professionals — not unlicensed volunteer chaplains inserted into public schools under the guise of “support.”
Ohio House Bill 531 would allow chaplains with no educator license, no counseling certification, and no professional mental health credentials to minister to students in public schools.
And supporters of the bill are making the real goal clear.
One supporter described chaplains as “substitute mothers and fathers.”
Another complained that school coping tools are “not rooted in religious principles” and “do not point the child toward a higher power.”
That tells you exactly what this bill is about.
This is not about filling a gap in student services.
It is not about evidence-based support.
And it is not about protecting children.
It is about creating a new pathway for religious influence inside public schools.
Public schools serve students of all faiths and none. Vulnerable children should not be turned into a mission field, and schools should not be pressured to treat religious volunteers as substitutes for trained professionals.
If Ohio lawmakers are serious about student wellbeing, they should fund counselors, psychologists, social workers, and licensed support staff — not open the door to uncertified chaplains.
HB 531 is religious intrusion dressed up as care.

What people are saying:
- Facebook User: Absolutely NOT!
- Facebook User: On what grounds do they the qualifications to do this..
- Facebook User: So it looks like you may need to home school your kids. OR now that the private schools are getting more money, privatize the public schools, (keep the same variety of students) and just eliminate the religious crap. That would make them exempt to the craziness.
