🚨 Never heard of “Them Before Us”?
That’s cause you’re supposed to see the billboard—not the machinery behind it. 👀
Have A Gay Day recently drew attention to this billboard in Lima, Ohio. (It’s been spotted in Alabama too) Its weird, hateful, and divisive message is brought to you by Them Before Us—which presents itself as a children’s-rights organization… 🙄 but its advocacy reaches into marriage, parenthood, reproductive policy, and education. You guessed it! Promoting one conservative Christian model of family as the basis for all public policy.
Its central claim is that children are entitled to both their biological mother and father—a framework it uses to oppose marriage equality, same-sex parenting, donor conception, surrogacy and families that do not conform to its preferred heterosexual model. But Them Before Us is not operating alone.
It leads a national marriage campaign alongside organizations including:
📍Family Policy Alliance.
📍Focus on the Family.
📍Family Research Council.
📍American Family Association.
📍It is also connected to Moms for Liberty.
Them Before Us appears in Moms for Liberty’s organizational resources, Moms for Liberty chapters have hosted its speakers, and Moms for Liberty cofounder Tiffany Justice is listed as an education contributor to Them Before Us’s “Pro-Child Politics” project.
Its founder, Katy Faust, serves on the advisory board of the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship and coauthored a book titled “Raising Conservative Kids in a Woke City”.
👏🏻This is the infrastructure SEA keeps highlighting. Different organizations. Different assignments.
➡️LifeWise and FCA seek access to public-school students.
➡️Moms for Liberty organizes pressure around school boards, curriculum, books and “parental rights.”
➡️Them Before Us reframes one conservative Christian model of marriage and family as “children’s rights.”
➡️Family-policy groups mobilize churches and push legislation.
➡️Legal and policy organizations help carry those ideas into law.
They are not one organization. They do not need to be.
🚨They are parts of an interconnected Christian nationalist policy-and-influence infrastructure working across religion, family policy, politics—and public education.
That is why this billboard matters to SEA.
Because these campaigns do not end with marriage. They reach into schools and help determine which families are represented, which students are protected and whose religious beliefs public institutions are expected to reflect.
The billboards might be stoking hate in Ohio and Alabama, but the machinery behind it is nationwide.
What people are saying:
- Facebook User: Ok- then I want paternity laws. A registry of men’s DNA so men can be held accountable for every child they birth. A vasectomy for anyone with a child born out of wedlock. A payments plan made upon the discovery of the father. Oh, that’s overstepping? Really?
- Facebook User: Facebook User I guess that’s better than murder!
- Facebook User: Facebook User
- Facebook User: This sends a horribly negative message to children. Kids are so vulnerable & impressionable. It also sets them up to be bullied. There’s so many variables – Adoptive, foster, grandparents, gay, blended families, death of a parent, etc. What happened to “it takes a village”?
Just so I’m clear because we are well aware of the intent here – I’d much rather have two loving moms or two loving dads, than hateful homophobic bigots as parents all day everyday. 🏳️🌈
The billboard should read, “Every Child Deserves A Safe & Loving Home.”
- Facebook User: Facebook User why weren’t the leaders of this organization in Dayton today who take money from everyone to fight for this noble cause? Lifewise spent thousands of community dollars for this main lifewise event, and no one from SEA was there to be seen. This is disappointing, and I think its time we finacially audit SEA and where the money is going.. I talked to hundreds of lifewise employees and volunteers and got them to understand where this movement is coming from. SEA should of kept the tittle of PAL, and not made it seem so left winged. We need better leaders in this movement who will get off their butts they’re paid to do, and at least protest a main lifewise event.
- Facebook User: It’s right though. Every person has exactly one dad and one mom. Biology matters. The best two people to raise a child are the mother and father who created them.
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User but it’s wrong though. And so are you. Biology may “matter” to you, but it doesn’t make you a parent. And how asinine of a statement… tell that to the foster system. 🙄
- Facebook User: Facebook User My biological mother and father were drug addicts who lived on the street and neglected me and my 3 siblings. To my knowledge, I’m the only one still alive.
- Facebook User: Facebook User If biology matters explain the immaculate conception.
- Facebook User: Facebook User your page screams ‘check my hard drive’ it’s all I think about when I see Christian dads, there are so many. You’re on your page talking about abortion and pride, when EVERY week I see trusted Christian men with their mugshots all over for abusing kids. You people disgust me. Get the speck of dust out of your own eye first. Hmm I wonder who said that? 😡
- Facebook User: Facebook User Yes, biological terms do matter. For example, there is a major difference between a father and a dad. A father provides his sperm to fertilize the egg. A dad raises a child with unconditional love. Sperm donors are fathers, they are not dads. Rapists who impregnate their victims are fathers, they are not dads. What is so bad about a child being brought up in a loving home with two dads or two moms, versus being stuck in the foster care system where they get neglected and abused?
- Facebook User: Facebook User you don’t care about biology. You care about forcing your religion on people.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Some bio parents reject their gay/trans kids.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Opinions are like testicles. Everybody has one.
- Facebook User: Facebook User creating a child does not make you a parent. Loving that child, teaching that child to be a good human, snuggling that child when they are sick, protecting them when they are scared, providing for them, that is what makes you a parent not genetics. My daughters have 2 moms. They are happy, healthy and so very loved. They excel in sports, they make good grades in school, their teachers consistently tell us they are great students, they socialize just fine. They also know that not every family looks the same and that is ok. I refuse to let anyone make my daughters feel like something is wrong with them or their family because we aren’t the traditional 1950s style American family.
- Facebook User: Facebook User biology doesn’t make you a parent, certainly not in the sense of loving, nurturing and caring for a child. A long time ago I knew a couple of men who served as sperms donors in a country half way around the world. When their reason for being in said country expired they flew away and never gave it another thought. Were they fathers in a biological sense? Yeah. Were they “Dad”. No. Those kids wound up with a single Mom.
- Facebook User: Facebook User oh that is definitely not true. Some people are much better off being raised by nearly anyone other than their biological parents
- Facebook User: Facebook User Oh you are such a clown. You don’t care about children, so don’t pretend you do. There are MILLIONS of kids out there, who might not even have a SINGLE parent, whether it is their biological mother or father, who cares about them, and loves them, and takes care of them. And yet there are millions of gay people, many of whom who would happily love and support these children who were ABANDONED by their biological parents. Perhaps if you straight people would own up to your responsibilities, you wouldn’t need to be complaining about gay adoption. But irresponsible and selfish people like you, who don’t actually care about the lives of other people, keep acting up and saying things that simply aren’t helpful or true.
- Facebook User: Nope you’re wrong. Sorry you disagree with it but the best people to raise a child are it’s BIOLOGICAL parents. Not two gay dads or two gay moms. Just because you absolutely certain about something doesn’t make you right.
- Facebook User: Just more christian nationalist ratfuckery.
- Facebook User: This sign is accurate. People today are literally denying truth.
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User yeah ok bud. Get outta here with your Antisemitic bullshit.
- Facebook User: Facebook User my dad died when my mom was pregnant and the man I was raised by from birth I called dad…both of them were my dad, no? Maybe you should focus on your own family and leave everyone else’s alone 🥱
- Facebook User: He wasn’t your biological dad. That’s what this sign is saying.
- Facebook User: Jews reject Yeshua. Christians reject His Torah. If Accepting Yeshua as the Messiah is antisemitism, count me in! Why do you care? If you are “secular”, what’s its matter to you? Neither religion is following the scriptures. Just like the secular world.
What’s antisemitic about this post? Did you even read it? 😂
- Facebook User: Facebook User 👈Example of the people today who are literally denying the truth.
- Facebook User: Facebook User you’re literally an inbred moron fuckwit.
- Facebook User: We have different standards of truth:
“Your righteousness is righteousness forever, And Your Torah is truth.”
Tehillim (Psalms) 119:142 You deny truth. There is only ONE truth.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Ooop! Silly, boy. We don’t have to play along with your delusions.
- Facebook User: Facebook User you’re intentionally obtuse OR your an idiot incapable of basic comprehension. Either way, you’re arguing semantics when you know damn well that the sign is intentionally homophobic and also wrong. A lot of kids have 2 moms, a lot of kids have 2 dads. Including kids from heterosexual parents. This narrative is boring and so are you.
- Facebook User: Facebook User yeah you missed the pint of the post but thats okay. Glad someone stepped up to raise you in a man/woman relationship and gave you role models from both perspectives. Have a blessed day
- Facebook User: Facebook User you’re an idiot too. I didn’t miss the point. And the man who raised me was an abusive loser who literally told me to my face that he’d choose Donald Trump over me and his biological kids. Then proceeded to actually do so. He has 3 grandkids he’s never even met and disowned his own biological daughter for her sexuality. He’s not actually a beacon of manhood and I would have preferred a second mom 🤣 get fucked
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User she didn’t miss the point of the post. YOU did.
- Facebook User: Ok keep believing you can have two dads 😂
- Facebook User: Facebook User
Reality is you can have zero or one or two or three or four dads. You don’t define someone else’s family. - Facebook User: Ok keep living in make believe land. You have no standard to go by therefore you have this world view. You determine what’s right and what’s wrong. Anything goes!!!
- Facebook User: Facebook User Agree. Like you having hard time to find the truth that your religion and your god is not the only one.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Oh, sweetie.
It is such a sad statement on your own humanity if the only way you can determine what is right and what is wrong is based solely on a magical, mythological creature. The rest of us just treat others how we would want to be treated. It really is that simple.
- Facebook User: It’s ironic, you follow Torah probably 85% of the time. Treating others the way you want to be treated is subjective and that can be anything. You make no sense with no standard.
- Facebook User: Yea there are false religions.
- Facebook User: Facebook User does your wife know that you’ve cheated on her? How’s that immaculate standard working for ya?
- Facebook User: You don’t understand what living the Torah out through Yeshua actually means. Nor do you understand how atonement for sin is administered. Your comment is ignorant. It’s ok though.
- Facebook User: Narrow minded jerks are so afraid.
- Facebook User: Yea been seeing the usual suspects being a bag of Richards about the billboard. 🙄
- Facebook User: The message on that sign is completely wrong. There are many children that have two dads or two moms. Not every family is identical.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Actually you have a mother and a father. A baby doesn’t come from two women or from two men. That doesn’t mean that two men cannot raise a child or the two women cannot raise a child. What it does mean is that that child was born of both a male and a female not two females for two males. 🤷🏻♀️ But I do understand where you’re coming from because there are definitely times when two women or two men can raise a child better than that child’s mother and father could have. There is also the family that you make.
- Facebook User: And why do these hating, evil, antichrist people even care?
- Facebook User: Facebook User Actually, some babies only have a mother and a sperm donor.
- Facebook User: Biology makes you a parent. Presence makes you a mother or father.
- Facebook User: Or more, due to blended families. It’s not that uncommon for a child to have three or four parents who have an active role in their lives due to divorce and remarriage-and that’s not even counting LGBT families.
- Facebook User: Facebook User how two dads get pregnant
- Facebook User: Nature disagrees. Many children have two men raising them or two women—who they call moms or dads, but this is factually correct. A child can absolutely not be born without one biological mom and one biological dad.
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User shut up.
- Facebook User: Secular Education Association it’ll be okay faggot.
- Facebook User: Facebook User Two phrases for ya, Esther:
1. artificial insemination and
2. In vitro fertilizationSperm donors aren’t dads.
- Facebook User: Being a biological parent does not make you mom or dad. Getting up in the middle of the night, caring for the child when sick, and all the other day to day tasks is what makes mom and dad. And it is very, very cruel to children in single parent homes, adopted children, blended homes, being raised by grandparents, or in foster care to act like conception is what determines parents and only kids being raised by two biological parents are “normal”.
Every child needs a loving and supportive family. Those families do not have to
look or be composed in the same way. - Facebook User: Facebook User looks like Jesus had only a mom. What a shame
- Facebook User: Facebook User William, sweetheart, you can Google it. I don’t want to explain basic sex Ed to a grown ass man, that feels weird
- Facebook User: I totally agree that the title mom and dad is earned. However, that is the technical intention of this billboard.
- Facebook User: Secular Education Association how two moms get pregnant
- Facebook User: Facebook User Louise Crawford Kahle why weren’t the leaders of this organization in Dayton today who take money from everyone to fight for this noble cause? Lifewise spent thousands of community dollars for this main lifewise event, and no one from SEA was there to be seen. - Facebook User: Hmmmm, Jesus had 2 dads😜
- Facebook User: Facebook User 1¹1lĺl1pkk7ì
- Facebook User: Facebook User that part
- Facebook User: I raised my children with their biological father and I was miserable most of the time. I am now in a same sex relationship and my kids get the privilege of seeing the real me. A happy me so maybe you should live your own life and let other people live theirs. Btw. My kids are perfectly fine with my choice they just want me to be happy
- Facebook User: The sign is right. No child has two dads. No child has two moms. In fact some children have only 1 mom or 1 dad because for whatever reason the other isn’t in the picture.
OR … they have two moms one dad, two Dad’s one Mom or hear me out 2 Dads and 2 moms. Because love and support is endless!!! - Facebook User: Divorce rate is around 35% so I’m guessing there are a lot of two moms/dad’s around
- Facebook User: I agree Jennifer
- Facebook User: Ottawa Lifewise board member Tom Giesken is bending over backwards to support this sign.
- Facebook User: It’s biology
- Facebook User: Facebook User some kids have one dad and one mom, some kids have two dads, some kids have two moms, some kids have two dads and two moms. My son-in-law has one dad and three moms.
- Facebook User: It’s not listed in what they oppose, but if they believe a child belongs with its two biological parents, then it must also oppose adoption by heterosexual married couples who can’t have biological children. Because adoption is the removal (however voluntary) of a child from its biological mother.
- Facebook User: Facebook User I had 2 Moms too. I’m adopted.
- Facebook User: Facebook User why weren’t the leaders of this organization in Dayton today who take money from everyone to fight for this noble cause? - Facebook User: Facebook User Same. Adopted people actually have two moms AND two dads.
- Facebook User: Follow the science. Without male and female there is no child. To have two dads, or two moms, biology has been replace with something else.
- Facebook User: Van Wert has this sign as well……so disappointing.
- Facebook User: It must always be pointed out that this is a coalition of organizations that support hitting children.
- Facebook User: Truth
- Facebook User: This billboard is 100% true
- Facebook User: Thanks, I will be financially supporting Them Before Us from now on. Deus Vult.
- Facebook User:

- Facebook User: Wait… now we can define what a woman is?
