🚩 THE NAME CHANGES. THE NETWORK DOESN’T.
Last stop: Idaho. Next up: ILLINOIS.
Meet Illinois Family Institute.
*Illinois is a little different from some of the states we’ve covered: Illinois Family Institute is not currently listed as an official Family Policy Alliance state ally.
🚩But it is still connected to the same broader national policy ecosystem.
IFI describes itself as a Christian ministry working to advance public policy based on what it calls “Judeo-Christian teachings and traditions.” Its own mission includes influencing school boards, local government and the Illinois General Assembly. And public education is a MAJOR part of its work.
IFI promotes “parental control” in education, opposes certain sex-education and school health policies, supports religious-school alternatives — and even runs a Public School Exit campaign encouraging parents to remove their children from public schools.
👀🚩
IFI also says it works with national organizations including Alliance Defending Freedom and Liberty Counsel and is affiliated with the American Family Association.
That is why Illinois still belongs in this series.
The structure may not be identical in every state.
👉Sometimes there is an official Family Policy Alliance affiliate.
👉Sometimes there is an independent state organization working alongside many of the same national groups and pushing many of the same policies.
But the pattern is the same:
national organizations.
state policy groups.
legal organizations.
church networks.
lawmakers.
And those networks repeatedly intersect around issues involving:
public schools.
“parental rights.”
LGBTQ students.
sex education.
school choice.
religious education.
curriculum.
So, when one of these fights suddenly appears in your district or statehouse, don’t assume it started there.
Look at who wrote the policy.
Look at who is promoting it.
Look at who is providing the legal support.
Look at the organizations behind them.
🚩 Illinois has Illinois Family Institute.
Different structure.
SAME national policy ecosystem.
Next up: INDIANA.
