Lifewise has no issue asking supporters for substantial personal contributions—including estates, retirement plans, and even life insurance beneficiary designations—an unusual practice for a ministry. Yet despite receiving grants and backing from major funders, each local Lifewise program is still required to fully finance its own operations. Local organizers must raise all necessary donations and purchase everything from curriculum and buses to marketing materials. When financial goals aren’t met, Lifewise even suggests that teachers volunteer their time rather than receive hourly pay.
