👏🏻Let’s do a little refresher in case you’re new around here….

In July of 2024 Lifewise Academy brought a SLAPP copyright infringement lawsuit against a parent and one of our co-founders, Zachary Parrish. In an attempt to silence us they falsely alleged that his fair use publication of their curriculum, violated copyright laws.

We were lucky enough to have the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s attorneys working on his behalf but we also had to crowdfund the money for a local attorney, barred in Indiana, who practiced IP litigation.

As part of the resulting settlement, Zach (with SEA’s full support) agreed to resolve the matter under specific conditions—chief among them, that LifeWise would make its entire curriculum (elementary through high school) available for public review.

While Zach was required to fulfill his obligations within a single business day, LifeWise had failed to meet its end of the agreement more than six months later. 👀

Directing the public to a third-party website where middle and high school materials must be purchased is not consistent with the terms of the settlement. Transparency was a central condition of the agreement—and it is essential for any program operating within public schools.

Because Lifewise Academy had not fulfilled their end of the settlement agreement- Zach was forced to reach back out to his local attorney and have a letter sent to LifeWise’s attorney demanding compliance.

The cost of forcing Lifewise to do the right thing (legal thing ahem) via that letter? $535.50
