🚨 Vermilion, OH Update 🚨

This week, LifeWise Academy held an open house for its new chapter at Vermilion Elementary — and the community showed up to push back. ✊

📚 Parents, educators, and SEA members stood outside with signs to say loud and clear: public school hours should be for public school education.

A few key takeaways:
• LifeWise is starting Sept. 17 with only three students signed up so far.
• Vermilion Schools originally rejected the program — but new state laws forced the district to allow release-time religious instruction.
• Even though LifeWise claims it won’t touch academics, their weekly pull-outs happen during lunch and recess — time that’s essential for kids’ social and emotional development.

👉 As SEA organizer Kitty Schwanitz put it:
“We want to prioritize education over something that parents should be able to do on their free time. Schools only have maybe 1,000 hours — that’s prime time for learning.”

SEA will keep standing with parents and communities like Vermilion who refuse to let public school time be siphoned away for proselytizing.

What people are saying:

  • Facebook User: So what part of the LifeWise curriculum prompts kids who attend to tell their non-attending classmates they’re going to hell?

    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User we’re going to be doing a deep dive into the curriculum in the very near future! From our research it appears that this conclusion could be gleaned from several of their materials and general ideology.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User itnhas been reported by parents in schools that have had this program, that kids “invite” their friends to attend and when they decline they are told they are sinners going to hell. Same with same sex parents, even straight couples not married. This isn’t your everyday nice church christianity…
    • Facebook User: Facebook User agreed. I’m very familiar with this strain of Christianity. Wears a respectable face. Lots of money and a laser focus on converting kids. I have great respect for the activists raising their voices.
