“Yet again, President Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission demonstrated that its true purpose is to advance a Christian Nationalist agenda and impose one narrow religious view on the nation’s public school children.
The speakers at today’s hearing made that clear – from the former high school football coach whose attorneys spun what one federal judge called a ‘deceitful narrative’ to recast his coercive post-game prayer rallies with public school students as quiet, personal, private prayers, to a public high school history teacher who has likened public schools to a ‘mission field’ where she engages in ‘spiritual warfare’ to oppose LGBTQ+ students’ identities.
-WASHINGTON – Americans United for Separation of Church and State President and CEO Rachel Laser issued this statement in response to the recent Religious Liberty Commission hearing on religious freedom in public education.”
What people are saying:
- Facebook User: More patriotic? FINE WITH ME – we are providing free education of a caliber higher than I have seen in any other country in which I have lived or taught. More Christian? NO. I support the removal of sexualized reading material from the middle school library, of course! And I support the removal of hate-Whitey curricula. Decency and the rejection of racism are American values. But so is freedom of religion, which means in part that my children are free from your religion! I do not want my children, or any children, taught Christianity or Islam or Buddhism or any other religion, in a way that *promotes that religion*. That is NOT an American value.
