SEA’s focus has always been keeping the public-school day secular, inclusive, and evidence-based. That means we don’t just watch Released-Time programs like LifeWise—we also track bills that try to slip ideological or religiously driven content into classrooms under the banner of “science” or “character.”
Ohio’s “Baby Olivia Act” is a clear example: it would require public-school 3rd-graders to watch a video produced by an anti-abortion advocacy group. No matter where anyone stands on abortion, lessons on human development belong to medically accurate, peer-reviewed sources—not advocacy organizations with a moral or religious agenda.
SEA will continue to monitor and speak out on any state bill—Ohio or elsewhere—that compromises neutral, fact-based curriculum or uses classroom time to promote an agenda. Our mission is to protect every child’s right to learn free from religious influence and grounded in evidence.
