📚 It’s American Library Association’s Banned Books Week — October 6-12, 2025

Every year, more and more books are pulled from school and public-library shelves — NOT because they’re harmful, but because they challenge the worldview of those who want to narrow what students are allowed to learn.

Censoring ideas doesn’t protect children. It limits them.

From novels that explore race and identity to stories that simply acknowledge LGBTQ+ students exist, these bans are part of the same movement trying to replace evidence-based education with ideology — the same movement pushing religious instruction into the public-school day.

At the Secular Education Association, we believe public schools must remain places where students can think freely, question openly, and learn without fear or indoctrination.

Banned Books Week is a reminder that defending the freedom to read is defending the freedom to think.

👉 Join us this week:

• Speak up at your local school board and library meetings.
• Share your favorite challenged or banned book.
• Support your local librarians — the first line of defense for open access to information.
• Remind your community: Public education and libraries belong to everyone.
