ANOTHER predator closely tied to LifeWise Academy that only community concern has uncovered.
Fishers, Indiana

An anonymous tip led the Secular Education Association (SEA)to review publicly available records about LifeWise Academy’s Hamilton Southeastern Schools program. Those records and news reports show that the listed local director, Larry Renihan—a minister at Cyntheanne Christian Church in Fishers and a retired public-school teacher/administrator—is the father of Donald “Don” Renihan, a former Carmel and Westfield girls’ basketball coach who, at 41, married his former student-athlete, newly 18-year-old Andrea “Ande” Ray, shortly after he was sentenced on five counts of felony child seduction involving her. Reporting indicates the relationship began when Ray was 16, while playing basketball at Westfield and later Carmel, where Don Renihan coached. The wedding took place at Cyntheanne Christian Church, where Larry Renihan serves as a minister, a fact that raises serious concerns about boundaries, accountability, and judgment—especially given that he was presented to families as the local “face” of LifeWise’s HSE program.

According to contemporaneous reporting, Don Renihan pleaded guilty and received 3½ years’ probation, was required to forfeit his teaching license, barred from unsupervised contact with minors (except his own children), and ordered to undergo counseling and complete 120 hours of community service. He was also required to register under Indiana’s sex-offender laws, making him a convicted child molester.

About Indiana’s registry: Indiana uses “sex or violent offender” as a legal category name—it does not automatically mean lifetime registration. For child-seduction convictions, the default registration term is 10 years from release or the start of probation unless a lifetime trigger applies. Child seduction (IC 35-42-4-7) is not an automatic SVP offense; SVP status would require a separate court finding. As a result, Don Renihan is no longer on the public registry.

🚨Why this matters now:
Community members report that while Larry Renihan is presented as the local “face” of LifeWise, Andrea (Ray) Renihan is behind the push bringing LifeWise to HSE. These reports raise urgent questions about who is influencing during-school access to students, especially if children are taken off campus to a church site. There is also ongoing concern that LifeWise’s background checks may be weaker than district standards, and that district requirements may not automatically apply to third-party religious programs operating during the school day. In addition, Andrea “Ande” Renihan is listed by Ohio Christian University as Online Enrollment staff (named “Administrator of the Year” in an OCU post) and appears as a recruiter on multiple OCU enrollment forms.

Lifewise Academy has become LESS transparent over time and where they once listed the teachers for every district’s Lifewise program- they no longer have that information publicly available. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if Andrea “Ande” is a Lifewise teacher or volunteer, or to what extent her involvement is. This isn’t the first time the area has faced boundary-violations by adults in school settings. In 2001, Carmel High School administrators grappled with allegations involving three staff members and relationships with teenagers. The community has seen this pattern before.

That’s why this setup is so alarming: if the father/father-in-law (Larry Renihan) and the wife (Andrea “Ande” Renihan) are actively involved in bringing or running LifeWise locally, it is reasonable to fear direct or indirect contact with Donald Renihan through family proximity and shared spaces. When programs move children to unsecured second locations during the school day, those risks multiply — fewer eyes, blurred lines of authority, and less accountability.

At SEA, our bottom line is simple: protect kids. Predators don’t usually jump out of the shadows — they use relationships, titles, and trust to get proximity. It’s rarely a stranger.

We’re sounding the alarm because access is everything. If adults can carve out unsupervised or lightly supervised time with students — especially off campus — harm becomes easier to hide and harder to stop. Public school time must be safe, transparent, and tightly controlled. Our kids deserve nothing less.
