🚨Angola, Indiana — Community Conversation on LifeWise

Earlier this week, SEA was invited by the Steuben County Democrats to present in Angola, Indiana about LifeWise Academy and Released Time Religious Instruction.

SEA has hosted and joined dozens of town halls, panels, and community briefings nationwide to raise awareness and share concrete concerns. We routinely invite LifeWise representatives to attend and participate so communities can hear both sides.

This event was the first time local LifeWise leaders showed up to listen and engage directly. We appreciate that step. They affirmed their intent to operate without school involvement, without divisiveness, and without pressure on students. We remain skeptical—because the problems we document are often inherent to mid-day pullouts—but we’ll be watching closely and advocating for guardrails that protect instruction time, safety, and true neutrality.

Most attendees—including LifeWise staff—were civil and respectful, and we’re grateful for that. A few tried to derail the conversation with hostility; that only underscores why facts, transparency, and student protections matter.

To everyone who came in support: thank you. Walking into a room where opposition is organized can be intimidating, and your presence made a difference. Despite a few tense moments, the discussion was productive—and a couple of folks even reconsidered their views after hearing the full picture.

SEA’s stance is consistent:
• We don’t endorse RTRI.
• If a district allows it, we demand strict guardrails: off-campus, privately run, no school resources, and no disruption to learning.
• We will keep talking about students’ rights, safety, and uninterrupted instruction—without taking the bait of trolls or hate.
