Indiana’s newly sworn-in Lt. Governor, Micah Beckwith, just visited a LifeWise Academy classroom — standing proudly in front of a giant “JESUS” mural alongside staff and volunteers.
This is not a private church event.
This is a program that pulls public-school children out of class during the instructional day for religious lessons — and now, it’s being endorsed by one of the state’s top elected officials.
It’s one thing for religious groups to hold voluntary after-school programs.
It’s another for state leaders to openly promote religious indoctrination during the school day under the banner of “character education.”
Public officials represent all Hoosiers — of every faith and none. Our schools should too.
