The 74 just published a detailed investigation into LifeWise’s rapidly expanding in-school release time Bible program — including the big red buses, aggressive student recruitment tactics, and growing concerns from parents and educators across the country.
The article highlights what we have seen firsthand in districts across Ohio, Indiana, and beyond:
• Children are being pulled out of academic instruction
• Students who don’t attend report social pressure and exclusion
• Some districts have promoted LifeWise in school communications
• Permission slips in some districts automatically renew, meaning a child may continue attending unless a parent actively withdraws them
• Kids are returning to school with candy, trinkets, and “invite a friend” flyers—creating peer pressure inside the school day
This reflects a shift away from voluntary, after-school religious education and toward organized recruitment during instructional time.
As one Ohio parent put it:
“It’s not my own child I worry about. It’s that they’re being trained to convert their classmates during school.”
This is the heart of the issue:

It’s BLATANT !!!!!- Facebook User: Chelsea Huggins, I hope you mean tactically, not in principle. I would like to start a philosophy bus that shows different thoughts and critical thinking. This model would be great for that. 🤷🏻♀️ It would be fun if other religions started a bus too. I actually would like the opportunity to learn about other religions leading to an understanding of cultures and other perspectives.
