EVERETT: Children — including kindergarteners — were released to an adult parents did not authorize
As Everett Public Schools.WA is being pressured to weaken its release-time safeguards, these documents reveal a serious student-safety problem happening right now.
1️⃣ The parent’s handwritten permission slip is clear:
It explicitly says: “with Sarah Sweeney.”
That is the only adult this parent approved to take their child off campus.
2️⃣ But the actual LifeWise sign-out sheet shows two adults signing kids IN/OUT (It’s unclear which)
One adult whose name does appear on the printed LifeWise form
Another adult — “Kay Hibbard/Hubbard” — who does not appear on the parent’s permission slip anywhere
This means a child was released to someone the parent never authorized.
3️⃣ This didn’t involve just one child — it involved multiple children, including six kindergarteners.
These are some of the youngest students in the school.
Parents trusted the district to release their children ONLY to listed adults.
That simply did not happen.
4️⃣ And there’s another deeply concerning pattern:
In several instances, a single child is being taken to LifeWise entirely alone, without any other students from their grade.
No classmates. No peers.
Just one young child leaving campus with a group of adults — some of whom were never listed on the parent’s permission slip.
Most parents would have no idea this is happening.
5️⃣ This is not a new requirement. These are the same procedures LifeWise agreed to before the first students were ever released to them in January 2025. The District simply formalized and published the rules on its website; nothing about the expectations has changed. LifeWise’s claim that these are “new rules” is inaccurate.
Weekly confirmations, sealed handouts, named adults, accurate sign-out procedures — these are not “draconian.”
They are the bare minimum for student safety and chain-of-custody.
LifeWise is demanding that Everett remove these safeguards at the very moment documents show they are already failing to follow parent authorizations.
Everett: this is not about religion — it is about child safety.

Washington families deserve transparency and protection, not pressure to weaken safety rules.

What people are saying:
- Facebook User: I wish you had blocked out the full parents names. Not sure why you didnt.
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User Hi Adriana — totally understand the concern. These names came directly from a public-records release, and districts do not redact adult names because they aren’t protected information under public-records law. We always remove student info, but adult identities (parents, staff, outside volunteers, etc.) are public unless there’s a specific safety exemption. Just wanted to clarify why it appears as-is.
- Facebook User: A parent should also get to say their child will not attend if they are the lone participant. For any group event with adults. Im sure a parent would want to know if their child was all alone with adults they dont know.
- Facebook User: Facebook User I’ve never even thought about this possibility. Extremely alarming.
- Facebook User: Facebook User as a volunteer parent at everret schools I am not allowed to be alone with any number of students anywhere on campus. Why should it be different for them?!
- Facebook User: Facebook User exactly. There are rules for a reason. They dont get to side step or get special treatment.
- Facebook User: Holy cow. As a parent I would be furious!
- Facebook User: This is so true regarding child safety! And the rule is not new. If anyone other than myself came to pick up my child during school hours, the school needed my permission, the persons name, AND that individual needed to show their ID to verify their identify.
- Facebook User: Why would a parent ever let anyone thats not school personnel remove their child for a time during school? Only parents should be allowed. There are emergency contacts but this clearly isnt emergency related.
- Facebook User: This is too much to expect the school to keep up with.
Policy is policy. It can chsnge at anytime.
- Facebook User: Facebook User no rtri program, no extra work for the school. Problem solved.
- Facebook User: What I don’t understand is WHY any public school would want to open the door to a disaster waiting to happen. There is no legitimate reason this needs to be done on school time.
- Facebook User: Facebook User most schools don’t want to but they are being forced to. At least that is the case in Ohio.
- Facebook User: Facebook User OH is now a “shall” state, but WA is a “may” state. Every school district in WA has the power to reject or approve LifeWise operating their district.
- Facebook User: This is the biggest reason why I oppose any organization coming into a public school and transporting children off campus. It’s NOT SAFE.
