🚨Public Records Reveal a Paper Loop in LifeWise’s Insurance Claims — McCracken County, KY
When McCracken County Schools approved LifeWise Academy’s released-time program, the proposal included an insurance certificate that appeared to show LifeWise’s coverage was on file with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDOE).
So we checked.
We submitted an Open Records Request to Kentucky Department of Education asking for:
• The LifeWise insurance policy
• The ACORD certificate dated June 19, 2025
• Any communications between KDOE and LifeWise about insurance
KDOE’s response was clear: they have none of it.
No policy.
No certificate.
No communications.
KDOE further advised that local school districts may hold those records instead.
Here’s the problem ⬇️
📄 The certificate listing KDOE as the certificate holder appears in the district’s own approval materials —
🏛️ while KDOE says it does not possess the document and points back to the district.
Listing a state agency as a certificate holder typically indicates that the agency has received or reviewed proof of coverage.
That’s not meaningful oversight — it’s a documentation loop.
To be clear:
This does not claim that LifeWise Academy lacks insurance.
It documents a discrepancy between how insurance was presented to a school board and what the state education agency confirms it actually holds.
*An ACORD certificate is a summary document. It does not replace a full insurance policy or endorsements, which are necessary to confirm coverage terms, limits, and exclusions.
When students are removed from school during the instructional day and placed under the supervision of a private religious organization, clarity around liability isn’t optional — it’s essential.
📌IF the district had a full policy and endorsements, it would have been included along with the summary certificate above.
Transparency matters. Parents deserve answers.
What people are saying:
- Secular Education Association: Parents and board members should be asking a simple question:
Who actually reviewed the insurance coverage — and where is the full policy? - Facebook User: ACORD statements are not accepted as proof of insurance by banking institutions.
- Facebook User: Insurance also adds a layer of oversight, as the insurer will insist on safe conditions.
- Facebook User: For instance, will they insure liability for molestation without serious background checks?
- Zachary Parrish: Facebook User it’s pretty glaring that that specific coverage is missing
- Facebook User: Facebook User Schools should worry about being sued for allowing such lax management.
- Facebook User: This is why whoever is responsible for allowing these extracurricular activities should triple check every required documentation and make sure it’s not some scheme, because there are wild organizations out there to get our kids. We as parents are trusting the schools to do these reviews thoroughly before accepting new activities.
