📄 Ohio Districts Received New Guidance on Religious Release Time
Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sent guidance to every Ohio school district addressing Released Time Religious Instruction (RTRI) and religious activity in public schools.
The letter outlines how districts can:
✔ Limit instructional disruption from released-time programs
✔ Maintain legal boundaries around religious clubs and adult involvement
✔ Avoid unconstitutional promotion or favoritism
✔ Protect students’ right to a secular public education
The guidance also references research and policy resources developed by the Secular Education Association, including parent impact documentation and SEA’s example RTRI model policy for school boards.
⭐️Although this guidance was developed in response to Ohio law, similar “released time” policies are emerging in other states. Clear legal frameworks like this can help communities understand how those laws may be interpreted and applied.⭐️
This is why research and policy development matter.
When communities document real-world impact and build practical solutions, it shapes how public schools respond.

What people are saying:
- Facebook User: Amazing! But I can just see those districts in heavily evangelical areas thumbing their noses. That’s where the astute parent comes in.
- Secular Education Association: Facebook User Unfortunately, we know for a fact you’re right about some districts “thumbing their noses” and YES, that’s why astute parents and reporting is so critical. 👏🏻
- Facebook User: Facebook User there is hope! I’m in one of those areas and have talked with school administration and they HATE LW and hope to remove them by next year.
- Facebook User: Facebook User that is so encouraging Marti! So grateful for people like you who are willing to speak out. I’ve read of school districts like Defiance OH where LW and the district and unfortunately teachers are so in bed with LW.
- Facebook User: We just need to abolish the mining of public school students for grooming by the Nationalistic Christianity (Nat-c) movement!
- Facebook User: Facebook User yes we do!!
