This bill codified a new section of law in the Oklahoma statutes. §70-11-101.3 flipped Oklahoma to a ‘shall’ state by mandating that each district board of education adopt a policy that excuses a student from school to attend a released time course. This statute allows students to miss up to three class periods each week and stipulates that ‘Instructors hired by an independent entity to provide a released time course shall not be required to be licensed or certified teachers’. In a statement to The Oklahoman, LIfeWise CEO Joel Penton said they had ‘been advocating for the bill for quite some time’ and can be seen in this video urging his followers to contact Oklahoma legislators.
