The Texas voucher mess is exposing the real problem.

When politicians send public money to religious schools, they do not create “freedom.” They create a system where the government starts deciding which religions are acceptable enough to fund and which are too suspect, too controversial, or too politically inconvenient.

That is exactly what is happening now.

Texas officials are barring many Muslim schools from participating in the state’s voucher program, while voucher supporters continue to sell these programs as “parental choice” and “religious liberty.”

SEA’s position is simple:

Public schools should remain public, secular, and open to all.
Public money should stay there.

The answer to religious discrimination in voucher programs is not to widen the subsidy. It is to STOP using taxpayer dollars to fund religious education at all.

Once the state funds religion, fairness is no longer guaranteed.
