This gets at a much bigger problem.

We are watching lawmakers use the language of “rigor,” “virtue,” “tradition,” and “classical education” while actively hollowing out the parts of public education that foster critical thinking, context, and genuine intellectual depth.

At SEA, we believe public education should prepare students to think, question, analyze, and learn — not just perform political symbolism.

You cannot demand the appearance of academic seriousness while dismantling the disciplines that make serious education possible.

That contradiction is not accidental. It is part of a broader effort to reshape public education around ideology instead of scholarship.
