OHIO
We submitted proponent testimony today in support of Ohio SB 341, the bill to end child marriage in Ohio by setting 18 as the minimum marriage age with no exceptions.
Current Ohio law still allows some 17-year-olds to marry with court approval. SEA supports SB 341 because children deserve clear legal protections — not loopholes that leave them vulnerable to coercion, instability, and lifelong harm.
Our testimony makes a broader point that is central to SEA’s work:
the law should not leave room for a child’s rights to be weakened by adult pressure dressed up as consent, tradition, custom, or religion. Children deserve bright-line protections. Their safety and autonomy must come first.
We were proud to submit testimony urging the Ohio Senate Judiciary Committee to support SB 341.
If lawmakers are serious about protecting minors, this should be easy. 👀
NO child marriage. NO exceptions.
