April Fools’ Day is supposed to be about bad ideas.
Public schools shouldn’t have to deal with them the rest of the year.
Across the country, policies dressed up as “freedom” are quietly reshaping the public school day. From released-time religious programs to so-called “moral instruction” mandates, communities are being asked to normalize changes that affect schedules, staffing, student movement, and the overall school experience for everyone.
Even students who never participate.
That isn’t a joke. And it isn’t harmless.
Public schools are supposed to serve every child. They should not be used as access points for outside religious or political agendas during the school day.
Every child deserves a school day where they belong.
