SEA was featured in a recent news segment speaking out about a serious concern with school-day religious release programs: student safety.
As Executive Director Molly Gaines said in the segment, public schools spend enormous time, effort, and money keeping campuses secure. Sending students off campus during the school day to an unsecured, unvetted location that other people can access should concern every parent and community member.
This is one of the biggest problems with programs like these: they are often presented as harmless or simple, when in reality they raise real questions about safety, supervision, liability, and the role of public schools in facilitating religious access during the school day.
We appreciate the opportunity to help bring these concerns into the public conversation.
Watch and share.
