But when you actually look at what’s happening, it doesn’t feel soft.
States are considering and passing policies that
add Bible content to curriculum,
allow prayer and religious reading during the school day,
expand “moral instruction,”
and even open the door for programs that pull kids out of class for religious instruction.
Different policies. Same pattern.
Framed as parental rights.
Wrapped in religious freedom marketing.
Labeled “optional.”
And piece by piece, it becomes normalized inside public schools.
Let’s be clear:
Students can absolutely learn about religion in a constitutional, academic way.
That’s not what many of these policies are actually doing in practice.
This is a broader push to bring religious influence into the public school day through curriculum, policy, and access.
And families are already seeing the impact.
Call it a “soft wave” if you want.
But from where parents are standing, it looks a lot more like a rising tide.
