Public officials should be backing school leaders who protect students, not publicly attacking them for doing their job.

When an administrator acknowledges that boundaries were crossed and acts to protect all students, that is not weakness. That is leadership. And any elected official who tries to punish, shame, or intimidate public school administrators for doing right by their students is sending a dangerous message:

Fall in line, stay quiet, and protect power instead of children.

That is disgraceful.

Our schools need leaders with the courage to correct mistakes, defend neutrality, and put students first. They do not need politicians using public pressure to make an example out of educators who refused to rubber-stamp ideological overreach.

“Leaders” who admonish school administrators for protecting students are not defending education.

They are threatening it.

What people are saying:

  • Secular Education Association: If he helped bring the Lt. Governor in without notifying families, that’s on him.

But owning the mistake and drawing a line is what leadership looks like.

Public officials attacking a superintendent for correcting a boundary failure is the real problem…. and every school leader watching knows exactly what message that sends.

    • Facebook User: Secular Education Association Beckwith actively campaigned against a public school referendum in my district. He does not live here and the outcome did not affect him personally in any way. Incredibly inappropriate use of state level power.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE
  • Facebook User: Why did you have Micah there in the first place. It is high time we start admonishing and pushing out all the the Micah Beckwiths in our government. Keep Micah away from your children. He is dangerous.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User WE FULLY AGREE
    • Facebook User: Facebook User, a teacher from the high school invited him.
  • Facebook User: Sorry Reverend Beckwith, your association with known pedophiles tends to upset parents of school age children.
  • Facebook User: I really wonder how he looks himself in the mirror in the morning. What a nasty man.
  • Facebook User: Sir, your entire existence is offensive. Also, as Lt. Governor, you should be able to recognize the difference between students exercising their 1st Amendment right to assemble and schools officially condoning it.

However, considering your behavior and thoughtless comments, I can understand why you would have difficulty doing that. Seeing as you aren’t able to understand that very fundamental difference, it is mine and others opinion, that you should be removed from the office you hold. You’ve irrevocably tarnished the public trust.

    A concerned citizen.

  • Facebook User: Keep religion OUT of politics! They don’t mix!
  • Facebook User: If you can’t figure out how to be Lieutenant Governor at career day without being a proselytizing preacher at a public school, you shouldn’t accept an invitation to career day.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User THIS.
  • Facebook User: Truth .. Beckwith is a jerk.. !!
  • Facebook User: You seriously don’t see the difference between protesting ICE and you, as a public figure, discussing religion on school grounds?
  • Facebook User: He has some big feelings about the apology. Well we have some big feelings about Christofascists
    • Facebook User: Facebook User sorry for your hate.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User it’s okay. I don’t mind.
  • Facebook User: Christian Nationalism has no place in public schools no matter who you are. Good citizens are perfectly capable of answering questions of high school students without invoking religious conservatism in the answers. If the man had not crossed lines, the administrator wouldn’t have needed to apologize to the school district.

This kind of leadership at the state level needs removed. Same issues in Ohio.

    • Facebook User: Facebook User please explain what line was crossed and what you refer to as Christian nationalism in this incident?
    • Facebook User: Facebook User troll
    • Facebook User: Facebook User Already Explained. See “Separation of Church and State” – US Constitution
    • Facebook User: Facebook User I looked, there is nothing in the constitution about separation of church and state and……this didn’t even attempt to answer my questions.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User I guess I don’t understand the question then. Which is fine. I don’t have time to explain why a Lt. Governor should not be addressing High School Students about God at a School Event. The Principal of the school should never have been put in the position of explaining it either.

No God in Public Government Funded Institutions.

Honestly, we shouldn’t be praying over government meetings prior to them, sessions of congress or anything else having to do with government administration. That should end immediately. If people want to do that they should do it before entering the meeting.

    • Facebook User: Facebook User do you have a transcript of what he said. It’s hard to make a determination on hear say. Thank you.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User I’m going by what the Principal said, and by what Lt. Governor wrote in his letter.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User I’m just trying to determine want he did or said that was wrong. From these 2 people it appears some students ask him questions about religion and he answered. Then the principal apologized. It’s very vague.
  • Facebook User: And now the students are left to decipher all of this nonsense.
  • Facebook User: Micah please resign also. It would definitely HELP Indiana
    • Facebook User: Facebook User The Democrats like him too much for them to do anything. Trust me.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User are any of those democrats in the room with you right now? Because every democrat I know-including me thinks the man is a religious zealot, a racist and a sexist.
  • Facebook User:
  • Facebook User: Um, did you mention “hand jobs” as one of the “opportunities” for students? Pig. I’m sure you think it was a joke, ya fuckin mysogist. 🖕
    • Facebook User: Sounds like you also were disparaging transgender students. The kids are listening, son.
  • Facebook User: Micah and his butt buddy Scott Presler need to go away – far away.
  • Facebook User: Braun hates workers. Look at the red states here.
  • Facebook User: Beckwith is a conservative, of course he’s a massive piece of shit, it’s a prerequisite.
