They were approaching families during elementary school pickup.

Not at church.
Not after school at a private event.
In the pickup line. In the parking lot. At an elementary school.

A Michigan grandparent says LifeWise members were approaching cars and families at Reeths Puffer Elementary while teachers were telling them to leave.

That is not outreach.
That is intrusion.

That is what entitlement looks like.
That is what happens when an organization starts believing public school families are theirs to access.

Leave kids alone.
Leave families alone.
Leave public schools alone.

What people are saying:

  • Secular Education Association: Has this happened at your school too? Message us. No parent should have to deal with religious recruitment during elementary school pickup.
    • Facebook User: Secular Education Association oh my public school straight up bussed kids to weekly bible study and are still doing it, last I heard.
  • Facebook User: Perhaps the school should have called police to escort them off campus.
  • Facebook User: If you have to push your product that bad maybe it’s a defective product
  • Facebook User: Wow, they have no shame
  • Facebook User: This is giving predatory energy
  • Facebook User: The forcible exercising of entitlement is blatant with LW and other groups like it – thank you to those that bring it to the community’s attention and those, like this group, that take actions 👊🏼
  • Facebook User: What a terrible situation to put these children, teachers, and caregivers in. We try to teach our children to respect boundaries, and be kind and then are forced into situations where all of their boundaries aren’t being honored.
    • Facebook User: Yeah because people never hand out leaflets or ads anywhere else. Those kids must be traumatized.
  • Facebook User: Ugh! The nerve of these people!
  • Facebook User: Completely unacceptable. We need more people to push back on these disruptive tactics.
  • Facebook User: They are shameless, manipulative and sneaky. Districts are weak and they cave, shame on them.
  • Facebook User: This happened to me in middle school. This was over 20 years ago. They were ok school grounds handing small bibles out to children going into school. That same year the school had a guest speaker, a football player, who was preaching about God saving him. I said something about it and was kicked out of the auditorium and they tried to suspend me until my dad came in and had a conversation with them. This is a problem that’s been going on for a long time and it needs to stop.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User first we are so sorry you experienced this in a public school. It is exactly the sort of thing we are fighting back against. And you couldn’t be more correct- this has been normalized for decades. Families have suffered, mostly in silence, for decades. We are watching the the culmination of the religious right’s war on our public schools.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User would you give us permission to republish the story you shared above without your identifying information?
    • Facebook User: Secular Education Association yes, absolutely!
    • Facebook User: Secular Education Association families definitely have been suffering in silence. One reason I chose to homeschool was because of religion being allowed, even pushed, in schools. The schools locally to me, push the envelope often and get away with it because it’s a small town.
  • Facebook User: Muskegon Homeschoolers
  • Facebook User: Sounds like *TRESPASSING* to me. I would have been on the phone with 911.
  • Facebook User: Tax the churches.
  • Facebook User: Awful. I’ve decided to run for PTO president or vice president for next school year. LifeWise has started in one of our 7 elementary schools and if (when) one comes to our school I will be there to insure our PTO events are following all public school district policies!
  • Facebook User:
  • Facebook User: One of the Lifewise Groomers responded to me about harassing folks!
  • Facebook User: They didn’t have a right to be on property
  • Facebook User: Would I be met with the same energy from the district if I showed up to proselytize on behalf of the Church of Satan?

They are hiding behind the Zorach v. Clauson decision to sidestep the separation between church and state.

  • Facebook User: Why is Facebook User scared? Took away commenting on this egregious error to allow this crap on school grounds????
