Today, Fort Wayne showed up for public school kids. 💜
Public School Belonging Day in Fort Wayne, Indiana was everything we hoped it would be and more.
Families came. Kids made art. Belonging Bags were filled and shared. Community members wrote encouragement notes. People stopped by to connect, share stories, offer support, and remind one another of something every child deserves to know:
You belong here.
Secular Education Association began in Ohio, but our work has always been bigger than one state. Fort Wayne reminded us why:
Communities across the country care deeply about public education.
They care about their neighborhood schools.
They care about the children walking through those doors.
They care about families of every faith, no faith, interfaith families, atheist and agnostic families, and families of every background and structure knowing they are welcomed, respected, and safe in public school.
And often, what communities need most is support: information, resources, tools, and ways to turn concern into action.
That is why SEA exists.
From Belonging Bags and community events to model policies, legislative tracking, public education resources, and advocacy tools, our work is about helping communities protect public schools and helping families know they are not alone.
Public School Belonging Day was made possible in part through a grant from the American Humanist Association’s American Empathy Project. Thank you, American Humanist Association, for investing in empathy, inclusion, and community care.
We are also deeply grateful to the local chapters of national organizations, local businesses, community groups, churches, volunteers, donors, families, and neighbors who helped make this day possible.
Fort Wayne showed what community care looks like when people are given a way to show up.
Because religious freedom requires neutral schools and every child belongs in public school. 💜
