Lear. Brenner. Williams.

Three Ohio politicians who helped drag religion deeper into public schools.

Lear and Williams cosponsored HB 8, the bill that became Ohio law and included released-time religious instruction language for public schools. (The Lifewise Bill)

Brenner cosponsored it in the Senate, chaired the Senate Education Committee, and helped move it through. HB 8 specifically dealt with “school district policies for released time courses in religious instruction.”

Williams also cosponsored HB 445, the stand-alone released-time religious instruction bill; the LifeWise-style pipeline bill “regarding school district policies for released time courses in religious instruction.”

And Williams went further, cosponsoring HB 486, the “Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act,” to permit instruction on the influence of “Judeo-Christian values” in public schools and higher education.

They used their offices to normalize religious release time, pressure public schools, and open the door wider for Christian nationalist messaging in public education.

We looked them in the face and said Ohio families were watching.

We said public schools are not your mission field.

We said there would be consequences.

And now?

Beth Lear lost.
Andrew Brenner lost.
Josh Williams lost.
