Louisiana’s Legislature just passed a released-time religious instruction bill.
It does not force every school board to adopt a program. But it does something almost as damaging: it builds the legal runway.
The bill creates a state framework for churches and religious organizations to pull public school students out during the school week for religious instruction.
🚨Up to five hours a week.
🚨Potential academic credit.
🚨A state course code.
🚨Charter schools included.
🚨Virtual released-time courses recognized.
🚨🚨🚨And even a pathway for these programs to use school property if the district opens facilities under an equal-access policy.
This is how RTRI spreads.
First they ask for permission.
Then they ask for policy.
Then they ask for credit.
Then they ask for access.
Louisiana parents, teachers, and school board members need to pay attention now- before “optional” becomes pressure, and before religious instruction becomes another administrative burden placed on public schools.
