Reminder: Secular Education Association
uncovered the Renee Beck situation in July 2024 with a basic Google search.
Not the media.
Not LifeWise.
Not LifeWise’s background-check process…
We did.
LifeWise Firelands publicly introduced Beck as its director, saying she would be making a “life-changing impact on students with the gospel.”
But a simple search showed she had been fired from Loudonville High School after allegations of “sexual and explicit” communications with students.
🚨She later permanently surrendered her Ohio teaching license.
A generic background check may not catch educator discipline.
But in Ohio, a public school vetting process very likely would have.
Why?
Because public schools are not just checking for criminal convictions. They are supposed to review whether someone is eligible to work in a school setting, including educator licensure and discipline history.
That is the difference between “we run background checks” and actual school-based child-safety vetting.
SEA found this with Google.
Student safety requires more than trust.
What people are saying:
- Secular Education Association: Want to help us find what others miss?
SEA has a private national group where parents, teachers, and advocates compare notes, share local updates, and dig into what is happening in districts across the country.
This is how we connect the dots.
