🌈 Pride Month reminder: Gay kids do not stop existing because adults are uncomfortable.
Gay kids exist.
They go to public schools.
Gay parents exist.
They send their kids to public schools.
Your gay neighbor pays taxes to support the same public schools where your kids go.
So let’s be very clear:
👉Public schools do not exist to shield children from the fact that LGBTQ+ people are real.
👉They do not exist to help parents pretend gay families are not part of the community.
👉They do not exist to enforce one religious worldview at everyone else’s expense.
You want to teach your children to fear, shame, or hate LGBTQ+ people?
Do it on your own dime.
Do it on your own time.
But public schools belong to all of us.
LGBTQ+ students belong there.
Kids with LGBTQ+ parents belong there.
LGBTQ+ teachers and staff belong there.
Families of every faith and no faith belong there.
Public schools are not churches.
Public dollars are not ministry funds.
And other people’s children are not required to disappear so yours can stay comfortable.
🌈 Public schools belong to every child.
Follow Secular Education Association if you believe every student deserves a safe, secular public education.
What people are saying:
- Secular Education Association: A note from SEA:
Homophobia, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, “gay kids don’t exist,” “straight people exist too,” and other bad-faith garbage will not be treated as thoughtful debate here.
This is our page. These are our rules.
LGBTQ+ kids exist. LGBTQ+ families exist. LGBTQ+ educators exist. They are part of public education because they are part of the public.
You do not get to use our comment section to dehumanize them, erase them, mock them, or turn their existence into a debate.
We reserve the right to delete, hide, block, restrict, screenshot, quote, and otherwise fuck around as needed.
Public schools belong to all of us.
Gay kids included.
Get over it.
- Facebook User: Secular Education Association Updating your language would be beneficial, though. It’s a bigger issue than just gay kids existing.

- Secular Education Association: Neutrality protects every child. Gay ones too.
That is why public schools must remain secular.
A neutral public school does not ask children to pass a religious test to belong. It does not treat LGBTQ+ families like a controversy. It does not let one faith tradition decide whose children are “acceptable.”Public schools belong to all of us. That is the point.

- Facebook User: Straight kids and parents also exist. Your point?

I’m proud to be part of SEA and their support for LGBTQIA students right to go to school without religious abuse. (Attached is a parent’s story) - Secular Education Association: Facebook User Our point is that straight kids and parents are not the ones being called “controversial” for existing.
Straight families are not being erased from curriculum, targeted by religious campaigns, accused of “indoctrination” for being visible, or treated like public schools need to protect children from knowing they exist.
LGBTQ+ kids and families are part of the public.
They pay taxes.
They attend public schools.
They work in public schools.
They belong in public schools. That is the point.
And if that bothers you during Pride Month, maybe sit with why. But be quiet about it.

- Facebook User: everyone knows that government schools are mandated to teach. But when is it ok to challenge government run schools ?
