This is a clip from The Wilmington Standard discussing LifeWise Academy and New Hanover County Schools in North Carolina.
And honestly…What the hell?
LifeWise wants access to public school students for off-campus Bible instruction.
But when the issue of equal access comes up; because public schools cannot open the door for only one religion- this is where the conversation goes:
“Satanic groups.”
“Muslim students” studying “Sharia law.”
And then somehow:
“Presbyterians, who believe that pastors and other church leaders do not have to be monogamous…”
Presbyterians?
Do the Presbyterian churches, volunteers, and community members supporting LifeWise in MANY places know they are being talked about like this?
And let’s be very clear: LifeWise uses LifeWay / Southern Baptist curriculum.
So what exactly are we doing here?
Defending one religious program’s access to public school children while fearmongering about Muslims, Satanists, LGBTQ-affirming Christians, and apparently Presbyterians too?
This is exactly why public schools should not be used as pipelines for religious instruction.
If a public school district opens that door, equal access means equal access.
And if that makes people panic, maybe public schools should not be opening the door to religious instruction in the first place…
Public schools belong to every child.

GET OUT OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS! - Facebook User: Should NOT be in public schools PERIOD!!!!
- Facebook User: Ask Ohio how it’s going 3 separate men arrested for child sexual assault in separate instances.
- Facebook User: Yep. Should be after school or before not during.
- Facebook User: Of all concerns I have in my community…Presbyterians…is just not one of them.
- Facebook User: Facebook User we live in two very different communities. Because in my community a lifewise volunteer plead guilty to sexual assault of a minor. As well as two other volunteers outside of our community but within our state. So maybe you should start being concerned about what happens in this program outside of your own community.
- Facebook User: It’s like they’re so close to understanding why the establishment clause is so important for religious liberty. So close….
- Facebook User: Those damn Presbyterians again… (sarcasm)
- Facebook User: Alan Limke those damn Presbyterian…3 volunteers involved in lifewise in ohio plead guilty to sexual assault of a minor…not sarcasm. This isnt funny at all.
- Facebook User: Facebook User tf. LIFEWISE said they were worried about Presbyterians. Did you even read the post?
- Facebook User: Keep religion OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
You have Sunday, that’s enough. The rest if the week if for real studying – studying what’s really important
