It’s like when a student leaves for an appointment and comes back, the teacher continues with instruction. Teachers are sending their children to these off campus classes too and it’s predominantly in elementary schools. It’s like going to an elective class once a week. The community of parents and teachers agree to how it’s done.

For many kids education time DOES stop. Lifewise can take them (and does) for 2 hours a week in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The parents affected by the other people don’t have a choice.

It is my understanding schools are almost always providing the parent approved Lifewise off premises release time during study hall or lunch times.

  • Facebook User: Secular Education Association elementary release is usually lunch or non core classes is my understanding. Schools should not take on all societal ills to ‘fix’. Not their job. Help teachers out by addressing topics that are causing schools to pivot extensively from their role as educators. Ex. Schools that water down their primary education purpose & spread themselves in many different directions like being a health clinic and/or social service agencies.
  • Secular Education Association: Facebook User That isn’t true in all districts. Students are sometimes pulled from core instruction, and even release during lunch or “non-core” classes can disrupt scheduling, staffing, transportation, and the students who remain behind.

    And schools do not provide health and social services because they are trying to “fix every societal ill.” They do it because children who are hungry, sick, unsafe, or unable to access basic care cannot learn effectively. When those services are not available elsewhere and students are suffering, it absolutely becomes an education issue.

    None of that explains what you believe SEA should be “more inclusive” of.

Centralizing govt agencies or their approved partners in schools to impart values attitudes & behaviors onto kids is historically generally a very bad idea. No matter which political party is in power. How do educators not know this?

From what I read they are missing things like recess or electives like art or music. What about the teacher that wants to send her own child for a special class within the school day?

• Facebook User: So I assume you are fighting equally hard against parents removing their children from school to pursue advanced studies in music or sports such as gymnastics? In other words when the school children are at school, they belong to the school, and the parents have no say on how they wish to round out their development as people? So if a child is on track to become an Olympic level gymnast, they should not be able to leave early to travel to their training sessions. Oh, or is it just religious families that you are attacking? If it’s not affecting your kids, then butt out.
