🚨 AN ALABAMA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND COACH USED OFFICIAL SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS TO ORGANIZE AND RECRUIT CHILDREN INTO A CHRISTIAN EVANGELISM CLUB.
At Madison Elementary School, a principal reportedly notified parents that a school coach was starting a Fellowship of Christian Athletes club and invited families to a planning kickoff.
➡️The following day, the coach used what appeared to be an official district platform to encourage parents to send their elementary-age children to the first FCA “huddle” in the school gym.
➡️The club flyer was explicit about its purpose:
“Unite your two passions, faith and athletics, to impact the world for Jesus Christ.”
➡️It also described FCA’s mission as changing the world “through the Gospel.”
This was not a group of students independently asking to meet and discuss their faith. School employees were reportedly creating the club, advertising it through official channels, recruiting children, and arranging its use of school facilities.
👉Those are the details to pay attention to.
Public-school students have the right to their own religious beliefs and expression. But principals, coaches, teachers, and other government employees cannot use their positions to organize or promote religious indoctrination—especially among elementary students who naturally view activities promoted by trusted school adults as school approved. After a parent contacted the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the district confirmed that the FCA club was not implemented and will not move forward.
👏🏻This is why parents MUST know what is happening inside their schools. Calling something a “club,” making it technically voluntary, or placing it before the first bell does not erase school involvement.
-Who created it?
-Who promoted it?
-Who recruited the children?
-What school systems and resources were used?
🚨Those are the questions that expose the difference between protected student expression and school-sponsored religion. This happens more often than you think and in places ALL over the country.
