We told you these organizations are not operating in isolation. Family Policy Alliance
lists the Alabama Policy Institute (API) as its Alabama state ally—just as it lists Texas Values in Texas and the Center for Christian Virtue in Ohio.
So what is API doing in Alabama? 👀
Once again, public education is a primary target. 👇
➡️ Mandatory access for released-time religious instruction
Alabama no longer simply permits released-time religious instruction. Under a 2026 law championed by the Alabama Policy Institute, local school boards generally must allow parents to enroll their children in qualifying off-campus religious instruction during the school day. *The law also allows students to receive elective credit if state requirements are met.
When education organizations opposed the bill, API publicly defended it—and specifically identified LifeWise Academy as one of the organizations supporting the effort.
➡️ Volunteer chaplains in public schools
API celebrated legislation allowing Alabama school boards to authorize volunteer chaplains on public-school campuses, describing chaplains as another resource for students.
➡️ Ten Commandments in public-school classrooms
API also counted legislation returning the Ten Commandments to public-school classrooms among its legislative victories, calling it part of a broader effort to restore prayer and religious expression in schools.
➡️ Public funding for private and religious education
API strongly supported Alabama’s CHOOSE Act, which allows public education dollars to be used for private-school tuition and other educational expenses—including religious schools.
The organization openly argues that families should be able to choose schools that reflect their religious beliefs using public funds.

Ohio’s Center for Christian Virtue helped advance mandatory released-time religious instruction through HB 8.
Texas Values promoted Ten Commandments displays, school prayer legislation, and education savings accounts.
Now Alabama’s Policy Institute is advancing released-time religious instruction, chaplains, Ten Commandments legislation, and publicly funded private religious education.
These are not isolated state debates.
They are state-level organizations connected through the same national policy network, advancing many of the same education priorities from one legislature to the next.
Different names.
Different states.
The SAME larger movement.
