šŸŽ‰ FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Quick question: How many books are in the Bible?

66?
73?

More?

The answer depends on which Christian tradition you’re talking aboutā€¦šŸ‘€

And that creates a pretty big problem with the idea that LifeWise Academy is simply teaching the ā€œmain and plainā€ parts of Christianity while avoiding denominational differences.

LifeWise says:

ā€œWe seek to avoid discussions about denominational differencesā€¦ā€

But its own Statement of Faith begins by defining Scripture as:

ā€œthe 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.ā€

That’s the Protestant canon.
Catholic Bibles contain 73 books.
And that’s not the only disagreement.

In 2023, a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Toledo reviewed LifeWise’s 17-point Statement of Faith and concluded:

ā€œOf the seventeen points presented, we found ten of the seventeen to be at odds with the Catholic Faith.ā€

Today, the Diocese of Sioux City provides resources specifically addressing LifeWise’s teachings on:

āž”ļø The Books of the Bible
āž”ļø Grace, Works, and the Sacraments
āž”ļø Purgatory and Praying for the Dead

And Catholic clergy aren’t the only religious leaders raising concerns.

SEA maintains an entire collection of letters and statements from clergy and faith leaders who have spoken out about LifeWise and released-time religious instruction.

Because this has never been:

religious people vs. secular people.

Christianity isn’t one theology.

Christians disagree about Scripture. Salvation. Baptism. Communion. Sacraments. Original sin. Biblical authority. Who can interpret Scripture. What happens after death.

There isn’t a magical ā€œnondenominationalā€ version that makes those differences disappear.

LifeWise has made theological choices.
Calling those choices ā€œnondenominationalā€ doesn’t make them neutral.

And when children are leaving public school during the school day to receive religious instruction, parents deserve to know exactly what version of Christianity they’re being taught.

Happy Fun Fact Friday. šŸ™ƒ

ā€œNondenominationalā€ does not mean theologically neutral.

  • Facebook User: I don’t think that getting into the weeds about what LifeWise or any other religious group teaches is helpful in solving the main problems of RTRI. We need to focus on what this program is doing to our public schools. We need to concentrate on informing communities about what is happening and with the fact that LifeWise is violating the very Supreme Court decision that it hangs its hat on.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User RTRI is not ā€œthe main problemā€ we exist to address. It is one part of a much larger problem in public education, and SEA has never limited its work to arguing the constitutionality of released time.

We track legislation, curriculum, vouchers, religious organizations operating in and around public schools, political networks, religious clubs, displays, recruitment practices, and efforts to use public education to advance particular religious beliefs. And yes, that means sometimes we talk about theology.

There are Catholics and Christians from other traditions supporting LifeWise and released time because they believe they are supporting ā€œChristianā€ education generally. They deserve to know that LifeWise teaches a very specific evangelical theology that they may not share — and that LifeWise is trying to recruit their children, too.

That is not an irrelevant theological debate. That is information parents and communities should have when deciding whether to support an organization seeking access to children during the public-school day.

There is room to challenge the constitutional problems with RTRI AND investigate the organizations taking advantage of it. SEA is going to continue doing both — along with the many other threats to secular public education that have nothing to do with RTRI at all.

    • Facebook User: Secular Education Association May I suggest that you preface statements about what LifeWise teaches theologically with an explanation that you are only presenting the information so that parents know what is being taught? That may give you a little distance from the impression that I got reading it.
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User What impression did you get, specifically? We didn’t say one theology was right or wrong. We explained what LifeWise teaches, how it differs from other Christian traditions, and why parents deserve to know.
  • Facebook User: There are no denominations… only Christs visible Church in Rome..
    • Secular Education Association: Facebook User And LifeWise does not believe that.

      That’s the point.

LifeWise has its own Statement of Faith defining what Christianity is, what the Bible is, what salvation requires, and what Christians are supposed to believe. Those beliefs are not shared by every Christian tradition.

And LifeWise isn’t limiting its recruitment to families who already agree with that theology. They’re trying to recruit your kids, too.
That’s exactly why calling it ā€œnondenominationalā€ matters. It makes a specific set of theological beliefs sound like generic, neutral Christianity when they absolutely are not.

  • Facebook User: there’s no requirement to be neutral. The only requirement is non-denominational because that doesn’t establish a specific religion, which historical and legal precedent shows is about specific denominations.
  • Facebook User: The majority of the people living in Israel and who are governing the nation have no religion. King Donald’s is supporting this criminal nation. Polling finds 86% of Republican voters want the US to investigate the deaths of nine Americans killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank. This week, every Republican senator except for Rand Paul voted against it.

Sept 24, 2026: Prof John Mearsheimer’s analysis: Is Ukraine Committing National Suicide? 50 percent of Ukraine’s population is of retirement age and it population was 52 million, but since 1991 it is has decreased to ~25 million (decreasing by 600,000 per years). For every birth there are four deaths (1.0 population growth rate). There are some four million men of constriction age, but Russia has some 40 million men of constriction age. Ukraine’s energy system has been badly damaged. About $300 billion and $400 billion in foreign aid was given to Ukraine by the West and it needs $27 million more in 2027, but the West doesn’t have it to give. The 20 percent of Ukraine’s land has been taken by Russia and 25 percent of Ukraine’s GDP was produced in this land and 30 percent of its industrial production. Housing, bridges, and 90 percent of warehouses for storage of things have been destroyed which it cannot repair or re-build. The corruption in Ukraine has increased by the Nazis who rule it.

Today Russia has a much better military readiness status.

Thank King Donald and Republicans for increasing our federal debt and causing the coming world wide economic depression. The US federal, state and local government debt $60.53 trillion. Interest costs so far in FY26 have been the second-largest spending category for the federal government or $1.1 trillion per year.

And thank president Cheney for the Iraq war that wasted at least $7 trillion, for lying about Iraqi WMDs and another undeclared war which cost too many US soldier’s lives. 70 percent of American supported this undeclared war against Iraq based on lies about WMDs/

Sept 28, 2026 King Donald has sanctioned nine of the ICC’s 18 judges, both deputy prosecutors, and the Court’s former chief prosecutor. The sanctions under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to punish U.S. citizens for working with the ICC to ensure accountability for the gravest crimes.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not describe these recent designations as a response to a specific investigation. He said the administration stands ready to ā€œsystematically dismantle the ICC until it is incapable of threatening American sovereignty.ā€ https://www.justsecurity.org/154666/icc-sanctions-threat-us-democracy/
