The more people who understand what’s happening with LifeWise Academy and other released-time religious instruction programs in public schools, the better.

We’re glad to see this issue getting the national attention it deserves. Thank you, American Atheists, for helping bring it to a wider audience. But awareness is only part of the work.

Investigating these programs, obtaining records, tracking legislation, documenting violations, and helping affected families takes time, resources, and people willing to do the groundwork. That work is happening every single day, right here at SEA.

There’s a lot more work to do. And we need your support to keep doing it.

What people are saying:

  • Facebook User: I was reading through a LifeWise Facebook post today. One person who teaches through the program says that they are FBI vetted. The other one says they don’t even have to give fingerprints. So if this is a nationally run organization shouldn’t it be the same everywhere? To my understanding the ones that are doing this locally have done no background checks on any of the people involved. Not the drivers, not the volunteers, no one. I commented that if a background check for being done there wouldn’t be so many people who are part of the program being found to be predators. I asked one of the parents if they take their children to any type of church regularly where they could learn these things under the guidance of their parents? So far I haven’t got an answer. I’m curious how many kids are going to this program who have parents who don’t even go to church.
    • Facebook User: Facebook User I would venture to guess the majority of the students who attend do so because parents find it the easy way out relieving them of the Sunday responsibility of going to church.
I’d venture to guess many of the parents are unchurched or have a very loose idea of church and therefore see LW as “something that can’t hurt”
